I was a professional cricketer. I’d earned my place on a county cricket tour to England — the kind of opportunity that defines a career.
Then my visa was rejected. Not because of anything I’d done on the pitch, but because my college wouldn’t issue an NOC in time.
That was it. The tour was gone, and with it, the career I’d trained my whole life for.
I felt rejected. For a while, I gave up.
But here’s the thing I kept coming back to: in the weeks before that tour, I’d been shopping for my gear — proper performance activewear to compete at the highest level. And I couldn’t find it. Not in India. Everything was either cheap kit that fell apart, or imported brands priced so high that no ordinary Indian athlete could afford them. There was nothing built for us — for the Indian body, the Indian climate, the Indian athlete’s budget.
The same system that didn’t make room for my dream wasn’t making room for anyone else’s either.
So I built Athliq.
